Why Diwali is celebrated

On the day of Diwali, Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya along with Sita and Laxman after fourteen years of exile. According to Vedic astrology, this year’s Diwali holds special significance as multiple auspicious yog and rajayog have aligned after several decades.The festival of Diwali begins with Dhanteras, followed by (नरक चतुर्दशी) Narak Chaturdashi, also known as . And on the next day Diwali is celebrated, followed by Govardhan Puja and finally, the festival of Bhai Dooj.

Why Lakshmi pujan is done on Diwali

Every year, the festival of Diwali is celebrated on the day of “Amavasya” in the Hindu calendar month of Kartik. It is believed that on this day, during the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan), Goddess Lakshmi incarnated. Mother Lakshmi is revered as the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Therefore, along with lighting lamps in every home, we also worship Goddess Lakshmi.

Important thing to use in Lakshmi pujan

  1. Use lotus and rose flowers in Puja.
  2. In fruits use coconut, apple, pomegranate and singhara.
  3. Use fragrances of kewra or sandalwood in puja.
  4. Rice is most preferred in grains.
  5. In sweet, Halwa made at home is best.
  6. Cow’s ghee or mustard oil are best for illuminating diyas.
  7. Gold ornaments to be kept in puja as they are dear to Goddess Lakshmi.
  8. Other important items are sugarcane, turmeric, sindoor, Ganga jal and Panchamrit.
  9. The worship place should be smeared with cow dung.

Panch Rajyog all together on Diwali

This year, Diwali will witness the simultaneous presence of five auspicious yogs:

  1. Gajakesari yog
  2. Harsha yog
  3. Ubhayachari yog
  4. Kahala yog
  5. Durdhara yog

The formation of these yogs will be influenced by the positions of the Venus, Mercury, Moon, and Jupiter planets. According to Vedic astrology, Gajakesari Yoga is considered highly auspicious, associated with honor and benefits. Harsha Yoga brings growth in wealth and fame, while Kahala, Ubhayachari, and Durdhara yogas bring auspiciousness and peace. Additionally, after several years, a rare conjunction will occur during Diwali when Saturn, positioned in its own sign Aquarius, forms the Shasha Mahapurusha Rajayoga.

According to the Panchang, on November 12th, Rup Chaudas will be observed until the morning, and then after half-past two in the afternoon, the Amavasya date of the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month will commence. According to scriptures, Lakshmi Puja on Diwali always takes place on the night of Amavasya. Therefore, the worship of Lakshmi and Ganesha for Diwali will be on the night of November 12th. The Amavasya period will last until 3 p.m. on November 13th.

What to wear on Diwali and Lakshmi pujan

It is recommended to wear clean and bright-colored clothes. The colors we wear are believed to influence us, that is why yellow clothes are most preferred but if not available then red or pink should be worn on Diwali Pujan.

What should not be worn on Diwali

You may have often heard people say that the color black is considered inauspicious. During Diwali puja, try not to wear black clothes. Also, pay attention to avoiding any black color in your outfit’s design. It is also important not to wear dirty or torn clothes during Diwali or Lakshmi pujan. To please Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha and for their blessings ,wear clean clothes in puja.
